This website contains the writings of Prof Van Cleaf’s students in Contemporary Soc Theory, Spring 2017 at Monmouth University. We’re using this space to work through our readings, as well as use them to think through current events and our everyday lives. Contemporary social theory is pretty far reaching field and topic. We focused on the the following: Frankfurt School; Phenomenology; Feminist Theories (Butler, Frederici, Hoschild); Critical Race Theory (Hill Collins, Hall); Media Theories; Neoliberalism and Globalization (Sassen, James, Berlant). We also viewed the 13th Documentary, which helped us ‘see’ the ideas in our readings. It was surprising how adeptly the documentary illustrated ideas from pretty much all of the readings!
